Massachusetts 6th grader pronounced dead after playing basketball
An 11-year-old Massachusetts child has died while playing basketball.
Brockton 6th grader George-Levi Njuguna was playing basketball at the Dana Barros Basketball facility on Washington Street in Stoughton on Tuesday evening when he collapsed.
According to Boston 25 News, paramedics arrived minutes later. A defibrillator was used in an attempt to resuscitate, but it was unsuccessful.
Njuguna was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton. While lifesaving measures continued, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The club closed on Wednesday due to the loss of Njuguna who was described as a beloved member.
The report stated that a large majority of sudden deaths in elementary and middle school athletes are cardiac-related.
Services for Njuguna have yet to be announced.
