Man with serious injuries in custody for domestic violence murder while children were home
A Stoughton man is in custody at a Boston hospital today, charged with murdering his wife in their Stoughton apartment, Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey and Police Chief Donna McNamara said at a press conference this morning.
Stoughton Police responded to a call for a disturbance at 5 Bennett Drive #4 shortly before midnight last night. Officers made forced entry into the apartment. They found the victim Telma Bras, age 43, dead with apparent stab wounds.
In close proximity to Telma was her husband ILTON RODRIGUES, age 48, with obvious injury consistent with a suicide attempt.
The couple resided together in the home with their two children, a high-school age daughter and an elementary school age son. Both children were home at the time of the altercation.
Rodrigues was rushed to a Boston hospital with life-threatening injuries. He underwent surgery overnight and is in custody at that hospital and is expected to survive. He will be arraigned on a count of murder at the Stoughton District Court or in his hospital room when he is medically cleared.
The call to police came from a relative outside of the apartment who had been contacted by the couples’ older child, who heard the disturbance and reached out for help. Appropriate services have been arranged for the children according to Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey.
The matter remains under investigation by the Stoughton Police, Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Norfolk DA’s Office and other assets of the State Police.
