Employees at a restaurant in Fall River could not have envisioned what they would experience on their shift Friday evening.

According to Det. Sergeant Moses Pereira, at approximately 8:00 p.m., the department received multiple phone calls from residents in the area of Rhode Island Avenue and Laurel Street reporting a male exhibiting unusual behavior.

Upon arrival, Officer Kyle Frizado was advised that the male had been seen hiding behind vehicles and climbing fences in the area. One resident reported telling the male to leave his property. A short time later, Officer Frizado was advised that the male was at Fiesta Mexican Restaurant on Rhode Island Avenue.

He was told by restaurant employees that the 32-year-old male entered the restaurant and handed a machete to a staff member. He was behaving erratically and stated he was being chased by someone, although none of the parties who contacted the police observed anyone following or chasing him.

At no point did he make any threats of violence towards anyone he encountered.

Pereira stated that the man was transported to a local medical facility to be evaluated.
