According to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office, following the results of a medical examiner’s autopsy, Cristian Montero, 35, of Lawrence, will be arraigned for the murder of Carol Flaz-Burgos, 37, of Lawrence.

Burgos, 37, of Lawrence, was found deceased last Tuesday evening at a wooded area near Kenoza Lake in Haverhill. The body of Flaz-Burgos, a mother of two, was located by a Massachusetts State Police trooper accompanied by a K-9 and Airwing unit.

Flaz-Burgos was reported missing on August 31, when Lawrence Police began the search, soon followed by Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to Tucker’s office, Haverhill Police, and Methuen Police. Montero, who lived in the same building as Flaz-Burgos, was arrested by Lawrence Police.

Montero was initially charged with witness intimidation and misleading an investigation pending the autopsy results.

According to NBC Boston, Burgos was last seen on a surveillance camera entering Montero’s apartment and made the sign of the cross when she entered. She was never seen exiting.

Data from Flaz-Burgos’ cellphone showed the phone began moving away from the apartment building the same time Montero was seen leaving it with a wagon, a beach cart, that appeared to be filled with clothes. The phone started moving toward Haverhill, where Flaz-Burgos body was located.

Montero is scheduled to be arraigned in Lawrence District Court on Wednesday.
