Man seriously injured and thrown 12 feet after explosion Monday
PLYMOUTH — Chief G. Edward Bradley reports that the Plymouth Fire Department responded after a man was seriously injured while working on a boat fuel tank on his property Monday afternoon.
At approximately 3:12 p.m., members of the Plymouth Fire Department responded to a home on State Road for a report of an explosion and fire that injured a man.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered an 83-year-old man who was suffering from serious injuries to his head and extremities. The man was taken by ambulance to the nearby Manomet Fire Department, which is also located on State Road.
He was subsequently flown by medical helicopter to Brigham and Women’s Hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire. The initial investigation indicates that the man had been using a grinder on the fuel tank when a spark ignited the fumes and caused the tank to explode.
The explosion threw the man approximately 12 feet in the air.
No other injuries were reported in the incident.
The Plymouth Police Department also responded to the scene to provide assistance.
