Man released on bail in fatal Massachusetts hit and run placed in custody by ICE Boston
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Lowell Police Superintendent Gregory Hudon have confirmed that a 23-year-old man living in Lowell, was arraigned in Lowell District Court on the charge of leaving the scene of personal injury and death following a fatal crash that occurred on Sunday on Pawtucket Boulevard in Lowell.
At approximately 9:30 p.m. Lowell Police responded to Pawtucket Boulevard for a report that a pedestrian had been struck. Upon arrival, police located the victim, a 29-year-old female, in the roadway, she was transported to an area hospital where she later died. The operator of the vehicle, later identified as Guilherme Candido, did not remain at the scene of the crash. Police were subsequently able to obtain video from surveillance and FLOCK cameras to identify the suspect vehicle as a Ford Explorer registered to the defendant.
A warrant was subsequently issued for the arrest of Guilherme Candido who turned himself in to Lowell Police Tuesday night.
At his arraignment he was ordered held on $7,500 bail with GPS home confinement. He was also ordered to surrender his passport and not to drive.
Candidio posted bail, however, court records show he had an ICE detainer which led him to being placed into custody by ICE Boston.
He has a motion hearing scheduled for June 1st.
The victim’s name has not yet been released.
