A civilian was honored on Wednesday after courageously rescuing a woman in an act that signifies him as a hero.

According to the Portsmouth Police Department, on the morning of January 7, 2024, Brian Finn was driving across the Mount Hope Bridge when he saw a woman in distress, attempting to climb over the railing. Without hesitation, he stopped his vehicle, ran to her side, and held onto her until officers arrived.

Thanks to his quick thinking and selfless actions, the woman—who had been struggling with serious health challenges—was safely secured and given the help she needed.

Wednesday, Brian Finn visited the station, where Chief Peters presented him with the Civilian Lifesaving Award in recognition of his bravery and swift action.
