Man pleads not guilty, held without bail in fatal stabbing of Fall River’s Joseph Bump
Charges in connection to a fatal stabbing, which occurred inside a rooming house in Fall River Friday night, have been upgraded to Murder as the suspect faced a judge on Monday morning.
According to court records, 42-year-old Pedro Fernando Orellano Alvarado pled not guilty at his arraignment at Fall River District Court.
According to Gregg Miliote of the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, on Friday at 9:45 p.m., Fall River Police and paramedics were called to the rooming house at 234 Tripp Street and provided aid to the victim, who was later identified as 44-year-old Joseph Bump.
Bump was rushed to Saint Anne’s Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased just prior to 10:30 p.m.
Both the defendant and the victim were residents of the rooming house when a fight broke out with Alvarado claiming self defense.
Bump was being remembered as someone, who despite some struggles, loved his friends and family and deserved better.
Alvarado is being held without bail until a hearing on May 10th.
The incident is being investigated by Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the district attorney’s office and Fall River Police. Assistant District Attorney Daniel Walsh is coordinating the investigation.
