Brockton – A man convicted of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl at a Rockland hotel serving as temporary housing for migrant families was sentenced to state prison today, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz revealed.

Cory B. Alvarez, now 27, received a term of 10 to 12 years behind bars. Prosecutors had pushed for 15 to 18 years. The guilty verdict came on September 12 following a four-day trial in Plymouth Superior Court, where jurors took 5½ hours to convict him on one count of aggravated rape of a child involving a 10-year age difference.

The attack occurred around 7:06 p.m. on March 13, 2024, prompting Rockland Police to respond to a sexual assault report at the Comfort Inn on 850 Hingham Street. The hotel was participating in a joint state-federal initiative to offer shelter and meals to migrant households at the time, and Alvarez was among the residents.

Officers met the teenage victim upon arrival and arranged for her transport to South Shore Hospital for care. Their subsequent probe established enough evidence to detain Alvarez.

During the proceedings, evidence included testimony confirming Alvarez’s DNA on the victim.

“Our commitment to seeing this case through was, most importantly, about seeking justice on behalf of the child victim,” DA Cruz said. “It was also about ensuring that both the victim, and the defendant had their day in court. My thoughts remain with the child victim in this case, her father, and her family. With sentencing today, I hope that this family can find some closure.”

The prosecution was handled by Assistant District Attorney Shanan Buckingham, aided by Victim Witness Advocate Carolyn Dixon, with Rockland Police leading the inquiry.
