Man arrested on several charges after hitting police cruiser multiple times
A man was arrested early this morning on several charges after reportedly hitting a police cruiser.
According to Rhode Island State Police, at 2:30 a.m., Troopers investigated a motor vehicle crash involving a State Police division cruiser on Route 95 North at the Route 146 North merge in the City of Providence.
An initial investigation revealed that the Trooper was stopped in his cruiser in the first lane of travel, while investigating a motor vehicle accident at the 95/146 merge. At the scene, a gray Toyota being operated by 36-year-old Maksim Gorbachev, of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, then struck the rear of the Trooper’s cruiser after failing to stop. Upon impact, the suspect vehicle attempted to leave the scene and subsequently collided with the cruiser a second time where it came to rest.
The Trooper was treated at Rhode Island Hospital and later released, according to police.
Gorbachev was arrested and transported back to the State Police Lincoln Woods Barracks for suspicion of Driving Under the Influence, Driving to Endanger Resulting in Physical Injury, Leaving the Scene-Accident/Attended Vehicle, and Chemical Test Refusal.
