Man accused of burglary, kidnapping and assaulting 80-year-old woman, arrested in Providence after high-speed chase
A local man is facing several charges after an incident over the weekend.
According to Coventry Police, just after 8:15 a.m. on Sunday, the Coventry Police Department received a call from Smithfield Police Department advising of a possible abduction that may have occurred in Coventry.
Officers responded to a residence in Coventry, RI to investigate the possible abduction. After a short investigation it was determined that the victim, an 80-year-old female, was taken from her residence and ultimately transported to Smithfield RI, where she was found.
As the investigation furthered, a suspect was identified as 53-year-old Steven Henning. Henning led police on a high-speed pursuit and was subsequently taken into custody by Providence Police.
Coventry Police Detectives, Providence Police along with the members from the RI Attorney General’s Office interviewed Henning who was subsequently charged with Kidnapping, Assault with a Deadly Weapon in a Dwelling, 1st Degree Robbery, Assault on a Person over 60-Serious Bodily Injury and Burglary and Larceny of a Motor Vehicle.
The victim is in the care of a local hospital at this time.
Henning will be arraigned on his charges that took place in Coventry at the Kent County Courthouse.
Henning will also face charges from several other municipalities including Burrillville and Smithfield.
