ATTLEBORO, MA — According to the department, at approximately 7:15 p.m. on Saturday evening, the Attleboro Fire Department responded to the area of South Main Street and Tiffany Street for a reported water main break involving a vehicle.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a significant water main rupture that had compromised the roadway, creating a large void that partially engulfed a white sedan. The sole occupant was able to self-extricate before emergency personnel arrived and did not report any injuries.

Due to the extent of the flooding and roadway damage, South Main Street is closed in the area of Tiffany Street.  Crews are on site working to isolate the break and begin repairs.  Water in this area will be off for hours until repairs are complete. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

At the same time, a second water main break was reported in the area of Joanna Drive. Mutual aid communities have been notified and are on standby to assist should additional water resources be needed.
