Macy’s at Swansea Mall set to close
The rumors are true. Macy’s at the Swansea Mall is closing it’s doors.
A store that has been rumored to be closing for several years now, Swansea Selectman Christopher Carreiro has confirmed that the store has set a closing date of March 31st.
Macy’s is the latest in a string of stores to announce a closure or close at the Mall. Payless, Hannoush and Kay Jewelers among them.
Carreiro, recently made a presentation to Swansea Officials and the Board of Selectmen to try and save the Mall. “Wal-Mart’s restrictions imposed on the Swansea Mall in 2012 are oppressive, contrary to public policy, and have made comprehensive redevelopment of the Swansea Mall impossible. These restrictions must be extinguished by eminent domain so that the highest and best use of the Swansea Mall can be realized.”
One has to wonder how much longer the Mall can survive with the last flagship store set to close unless something is done quickly.
