MA schools see nearly 500 COVID-19 cases this week, Fall River near top in state

COVID-19 cases among Massachusetts schools saw a decrease from last week, but an uptick in some communities.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, a total of 276 new COVID-19 cases were reported among K-12 students from November 19-25. 206 were reported for staff making the overall total in Massachusetts schools for the past week at 482.

The report from the week prior revealed that 652 tested positive. 398 of the positives were students and 254 were staff.

The report only includes positive cases of students and staff who have been in school for either in-person or hybrid learning. Remote learning cases are not counted.

Here are the statistics from some area cities and towns from November 19-25.

Attleboro: 8 students, 4 staff
Dartmouth: 7 students, 1 staff
Fairhaven: 2 students
Fall River: 7 students and 8 staff
New Bedford: 2 students and 5 staff
Plymouth: 1 staff
Seekonk: 3 students and 1 staff
Somerset: no cases
Swansea: 3 students
Taunton: no cases
Westport: 4 students

Fall River has the most COVID-19 cases in the state for school staff and is second in overall cases. Methuen has the most with 20. New Bedford is fifth in the state for staff cases.
