MA school virus case counts remain high as Fall River, New Bedford near top in state, see more than Boston
COVID-19 cases among Massachusetts schools continue to remain high relative to previous numbers earlier in the year.
According to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, a total of 2,054 new COVID-19 cases were reported among K-12 students from September 23rd to September 29th. 345 were reported for staff making the overall total in Massachusetts schools for the past week at 2,399.
Back in March, student numbers were in the 400s with staff cases under 200.
Here are the statistics from some area cities and towns from September 23rd to September 29th.
Acushnet: 6 student and 0 staff
Attleboro: 6 students and 0 staff
Dartmouth: 15 students and 1 staff
Fairhaven: 17 students and 0 staff
Fall River: 49 student and 7 staff
New Bedford: 62 students and 8 staff
Plymouth: 15 students and 1 staff
Seekonk: 11 students and 1 staff
Somerset: No cases
Swansea: 14 students and 1 staff
Taunton: 26 students and 3 staff
Westport: 6 students and 7 staff
Fall River had the 4th most cases in the state. New Bedford ranked 2nd. Boston, a much bigger city with a population of 675,000, saw 28 student cases and 15 staff cases.
