MA Police capture suspect wanted for shooting grandmother, hitting officer with vehicle
Chelsea Police announced Tuesday the arrest of a shooting suspect by the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Section, who assisted Chelsea Detectives in the ongoing search for the suspect. The arrest occurred Tuesday afternoon in Malden.
Chelsea Detectives developed information that 18-year-old Jefferson Barrillas, of Lynn, was involved in the shooting that seriously injured a 68-year-old grandmother on Thursday, April 21st, near 78 Washington Avenue.
The next day, detectives came upon the suspect, who was operating a rented “Zip Car.” While stopped in traffic, and as officers approached, Barrillas used his vehicle to evade police and, in doing so, struck a Chelsea Detective who received minor injuries.
Barrillas was arraigned Wednesday in Chelsea District Court on multiple charges, including Armed Assault to Murder and was held without bail.
