Local man held without bail in Superior Court after allegedly breaking into Fall River home, attacking homeowner with knife
A local man faced a judge Friday after previously being arrested by Fall River Police late last year.
According to police, on December 27th, the Fall River Police Patrol Bureau responded to a reported stabbing at a residence on the 1000 block of Laurel Street. An unknown male later identified as 28-year-old Gahetan Jean-Louis, entered the home uninvited and proceeded inside. When confronted by the homeowner and asked if he was in the wrong house or needed help, Jean-Louis suddenly attacked him with a knife.
The victim was stabbed multiple times. Family members witnessed the assault, attempted to intervene, and briefly restrained Jean-Louis before he fled the residence. A black folding pocket knife was later located on the stairs and secured as evidence.
Officers quickly located and detained Jean-Louis nearby. He was taken into custody without further incident. The victim was transported to a trauma center for non-life-threatening injuries.
Based on the investigation, Gahetan Jean-Louis was charged with Home Invasion and Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon.
In Fall River District Court, he was ordered by the court to be evaluated for competency to stand trial at Bridgewater State Hospital.
In January, Jean-Louis was ruled incompetent to stand trial.
On Friday, in Fall River Superior Court, Jean-Louis pled not guilty and was held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for September 11th.
