Local father dies from injuries after being struck by bus walking on his way to work
A local father on his way to work has died from injuries sustained after being hit by a bus.
According to Providence Patch, Lucas Garcia, a 38-year-old resident of Providence, Rhode Island, was fatally struck by a school bus around 6:00 a.m. on Union Avenue at the northbound on-ramp to Route 10.
Authorities believe Garcia was in the crosswalk at the time, and the bus driver stopped immediately after the collision.
He was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries later in the afternoon.
No children were on the bus at the time of the collision.
According to those who knew him through a fundraiser, Garcia leaves behind two sons, ages 20 and 11.
“Lucas was much more than a friend, son, or companion: he was a person who earned the love and respect of all who were fortunate enough to know him. We remember Lucas García, a loved and admired person, whose passion for music made him an unforgettable DJ. Always willing to liven up parties and serve with his talent, he left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His light and his music will live on in our hearts.”
The incident is under investigation by Providence Police, with no charges filed against the driver as of Thursday evening.
