A local restaurant is currently experiencing unwarranted hate simply over who they are and the type of food that they serve.

Lebanese Pita Pocket posted a message to the community on Thursday after receiving hateful phone calls at both of its locations.

In the statement on social media, the restaurant said the calls were directed at the business “because we are a Lebanese/Middle Eastern Restaurant and serve halal food.” The message described the situation as “heartbreaking.”

Lebanese Pita Pocket, which operates at 519 State Road in North Dartmouth and 275 Martine Street in Fall River, said it works daily to serve the community with “good food, kindness, and respect.” The restaurant noted that its background is part of who they are and that serving their heritage’s food “should never be a reason for anyone to receive hate or discrimination.”

“Food has always been something that brings people together, regardless of religion, background, or beliefs,” the statement continued. “You don’t have to share our faith to respect us, just as we respect people of all faiths and backgrounds. We welcome everyone through our doors with the same hospitality, no matter your background or faith is.”

The restaurant added that it believes the community is stronger when people choose “understanding over hate, kindness over judgment, and unity over division.” It thanked customers who have continued to support the business, writing that the support “means more than you know.”

Lebanese Pita Pocket opened its Fall River location in 2025 after expanding from its original North Dartmouth restaurant. The business is known for Lebanese dishes including shawarma, mixed grill plates, falafel, and hummus.

Customers interested in supporting the business can visit either location or order through delivery apps.
