Law allowing immigrants to receive Massachusetts driver’s licenses to go in front of voters this year
BOSTON – The question of whether to repeal the new law enabling undocumented immigrants to receive regular Massachusetts driver’s licenses will officially appear on the November 8 statewide Election Day ballot.
The Massachusetts Secretary of State’s office on Friday informed the Fair and Secure Massachusetts ballot committee, who is behind the effort, that 71,883 signatures were accepted by their office, far surpassing the state’s 40,120-signature threshold required to make the ballot.
“Making the ballot is a huge achievement, and to do it with such an excess of signatures shows the groundswell of support across the commonwealth for repealing this law,” said Maureen Maloney, chairwoman of the Fair and Secure Massachusetts ballot committee.
According to the State House News Serice, starting July 1, 2023, anyone in Massachusetts regardless of immigration status can apply for a standard driver’s license. Undocumented immigrants will still need to prove their identity, date of birth and residency in Massachusetts using a range of documents including either a valid, unexpired foreign passport or a valid, unexpired consular identification document.
Baker vetoed the bill on May 27, saying the Registry of Motor Vehicles did not have the capacity to verify the identities of immigrants without legal status and arguing that the bill “significantly increases the risk that noncitizens will be registered to vote.”
The House voted 119-36 and the Senate voted 32-8 to override Baker’s veto and make the measure law.

Hey Hack Ken Paiva you misspelled Illegal Aliens. Your first action in this country should NOT be breaking the law. You want into this country? Do it the right way like plenty of immigrants did before. Any politician who supports this should be voted out.

States that have implemented this now have lower hit and run rates. Sense illegals don’t want to be caught they would rather do the right thing and get licensed and insured. Poor people can’t afford extra insurance to cover them for an uninsured vehicle.
It’s sad that the fascist lie keeps on going around that illegal immigrants commit more crime when it’s actually just the opposite. That’s what you call racist hate. How about all the illegals that overstay their visa from every other part of the world? Oh no it’s just the ones coming across the southern border that some hate.
The sad part is we really need immigration reform because we could use workers of every skill level. One of the biggest drivers of inflation right now are higher wages because of a worker shortage.

They commit less crimes than who? And they’re all here illegally which is a crime. Driving unregistered/uninsured without a driver’s license is a crime. Lets make it easier for them to commit crimes? No one has a problem with people immigrating to the U.S LEGALLY get in line and do it correctly. I work with numerous immigrants who had to get sponsored to come to the U.S. and vetted and it took a substantial amount of time and resources. They are the most vocal about illegals aliens circumventing the law.

Start worrying about legal citizens and our problems and what we want. Stop shoving your liberal leftist ideas i.e. Electric cars, green energy, net zero bs, pronouns and taking care of ILLEGAL immigrants before legal citizens of the Commonwealth. We didnt vote for this when we elected you. You were elected to represent and serve the population. We are not your serfs. YOU ANSWER TO US.
