Lakeville Fire Department responds to multi-vehicle crashes that sends 5 to the hospital, significant injuries reported

A local fire department responded to two multi-vehicle accidents at once Thursday night that resulted in serious injuries.

According to the Lakeville Fire Department, the first crash occurred on Bedford Street at Taunton, involving 3 vehicles. Car 1, Car 2, Ambulance 3, and Engine 1 responded to the scene. Shortly after arrival at the first crash, a second crash was reported on Route 44.

Car 1 diverted to Route 44 with Ambulance 2 and Engine 1. Recalled responders put Engine 2 into service, replacing Engine 1 at the first scene.

An additional 3 ambulances were summoned to the Route 44 crash, which was found to involve 3 vehicles. At least two of the vehicles collided head-on.

A total of 5 patients were transported from both accidents. Hospital destinations were Morton, Good Sam, and Rhode Island Hospital. At least 2 patients suffered significant injuries.

Chief O’Brien commended his firefighters for their management of a chaotic 30 minutes; they performed at a high level.
The chief also appreciated the mutual aid assistance from the Town of Middleborough and the Raynham Fire Department. Lakeville and Middleborough Police Departments provided scene safety at both locations, completely shutting down Route 44 for a period of time.
