Lakeville Fire Department: Fatal Route 140 crash leads to second crash that left 6 injured, two seriously.
A fatal crash on Friday evening reportedly led to another serious crash that injured several people.
According to the Lakeville Fire Department, following a response to a fatal crash on Route 140, a second significant crash was reported at approximately 8:15 p.m. on Route 140 South, just south of County Street. Three vehicles collided after drivers failed to stop for traffic backed up from the first incident.
Responding resources included 2 Lakeville ambulances, 2 Freetown ambulances, a Berkley ambulance, a Lakeville engine, a Freetown ladder truck, and the Lakeville Chiefs.
A total of six patients were transported, two with serious injuries.
Freetown Firefighters were clearing the second incident when they were immediately diverted to another medical emergency on the highway just south of the second crash.
LFD recognized and thanked “the firefighters, police, and dispatch personnel from multiple communities whose calm, coordinated, and professional actions ensured that every patient received timely care under extremely challenging conditions. Their dedication and teamwork represent the very best of the emergency services mission.”
Lakeville and Freetown Fire Departments provide automatic joint response to incidents on Route 140 between Exits 10 and 12 as part of an automatic mutual aid agreement designed to improve public safety for both communities.
