July 4th festivities, legends of music tribute concert, celebration of Joe Raposo among events coming to Fall River’s Heritage State Park
All programs are free and open to the public, unless specifically stated. The Visitor Center is located at 200 Davol Street in the Captain Thomas J. Hudner, Jr. Memorial Building. Free parking is available in the DCR Lot at 5 Water Street in Fall River. An adult must accompany children. Reasonable accommodations are available upon request. FALL RIVER FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION
Festivities start at 4:00 pm Fireworks begin at 9:00 pm.
Join your friends and neighbors on the waterfront to celebrate the Fourth of July on Independence Day. Fireworks on the Taunton River. Music before the fireworks. Food trucks on the meadow. Calling all volunteers! The Mayor of the City of Fall River invites everyone to help clean-up Fall River Heritage State Park after the Independence Day festivities. Meet in the Meadow at 10:00 am. The Fall River Public Library presents an ALLSTAR TRIBUTE CONCERT with music legends. Free and outdoors in the Meadow. Bring your chairs, sunscreen and insect repellent and sit back and enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime concert of tributes to the titans of the music industry. There will be food trucks. Fun for all ages. TIME MACHINE TO THE 18TH CENTURY, 11:00 am–3:00 pm
Meet in the Visitor Center and climb into our imaginary time machine for a trip to 18th-century Fall River presented by the Lafayette-Durfee House. See 18th century state of the art weaponry, women’s fashion, and medical care. In the Theater, learn about the courageous local patriots who fought the British in the Battle of Fall River, one of the first skirmishes in the Revolutionary War….and won! 1:00 pm 4:00 pm Join us near the Pollinator Garden by the Meadow to see the construction of a giant bee, all from Legos. Prior to and following the demonstration, watch a short film on pollinators in our Theater. In the Lobby marvel at an exhibit of oversize Lego Birds and Insects. EXHIBIT: A GLIMPSE INTO PORTUGUESE-AMERICAN IMMIGRATION, 8:00 am- 4:00 pm
Bristol County is home to the largest concentration of Portuguese Americans in the United States. Through photographs, rare newspaper articles, and other insightful documents, this exhibit offers a glimpse into the experience of the region’s dominant ethnic community. Fall River Heritage State Park features a monument to local Portuguese-American poet Joao Teixeira de Medeiros. This exhibit is on loan from the Ferreira-Mendes Portuguese-American Archives at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

SING! THE SESAME STREET WORLD OF COMPOSER JOE RAPOSO, 8:00 am-4:00 pm
Celebrate the creative genius of a local hero: Joseph Guilherme Raposo, the son of Azorean immigrants who went to Harvard College, studied music, and became one of the creators of Sesame Street Fall River is proud to honor Joe Raposo with a collaboration between Fall River Heritage State Park, Creative Arts Network, and the Greater Fall River Arts Association. The Visitor Center will host music, sing-a-long StoryWalks of his books “Sing” and “Imagination Song” and along the Boardwalk a StoryWalk ® of another Raposo book “Sunny Day”. Presented by the Pocasset Wampanoag Tribe of MA and RI. An exhibit of local Native American life connecting the past with the present in the Community Gallery.
NATIVE AMERICAN DIORAMA & PLIMOTH DIORAMA Presented by local historian David Jennings of Southcoast Historical Associates, 17th century dioramas of two 17th century Massachusetts cultures: a Wampanoag village and the Plimoth Plantation. Interpretive oil portraits of Sachems Weetamo and Metacomet Original paintings by talented local artist Sheila Oliveira are displayed for the first time.
