Inspection of the Veterans Memorial Bridge expected to last two weeks, cause lane and bike path closures

FALL RIVER/SOMERSET – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is announcing it will be performing a routine inspection of the Veterans Memorial Bridge (over the Taunton River) between Fall River and Somerset beginning on Monday, December 6. Inspection work is expected to last two weeks until Monday, December 20.

The work and closures will be scheduled as follows:

Schedule of work:

From Monday, December 6, through Friday December 17, work will be performed from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with no work scheduled on the weekend.
On Sunday, December 19, and Monday, December 20, work will begin at 9:00 p.m. and conclude by 5:00 a.m. the following morning.

Traffic management operations:

From Monday, December 6, to Friday December 10, there will be daytime temporary right lane and shoulder closure on Route 6 eastbound.
On Monday, December 13, there will be a daytime temporary right lane and shoulder closure on Route 6 eastbound.
On Tuesday, December 14, there will be a daytime temporary left lane closure on Route 6 westbound.
On Sunday night, December 19, and Monday night, December 20, there will be nighttime alternating lane closures on Route 79.

The pedestrian/bike path is expected to be closed on Tuesday, December 14, Wednesday, December 15, and Thursday, December 16, during scheduled work hours.

Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and messaging will be in place to guide drivers through the work area.

Drivers who are traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.

All scheduled work is weather dependent and subject to change without notice.
