In honor of her grandmother, Fall River area photographer, with community support, gives glam and photo session to nursing home residents
If you know Megan Rego, you know that not only is she a good photographer, but she also is known for giving her talents to make the community a better place. You also know how much her grandmother, Maria Olivia Correia, means to her, even after her passing. This week, she combined her talents and her love for her vavo into something magical.
With her enjoying the photos and glam sessions that Rego provided for her, for her grandmother’s birthday, Rego wanted to do something special.

“I wanted to honor her in a way that felt true to who she was and the heart she gave so freely. She spent so much time with the residents at (Catholic Memorial) nursing home, bringing them joy, connection, and love into their days. It was time to bring a little of that back into this world.”
Rego stated that what started as a photoshoot day turned into something truly beautiful.
“With hair, makeup, nails, portraits, and so much fun, we got to celebrate these residents and remind them how truly special they are!”
As part of the shoot, Rego also had each resident wear the glasses that she had her vavo wear for her photos.

After the special day, Rego was quick to point out that she didn’t do it alone.
“I’m so incredibly grateful to my amazing team for helping bring this vision to life!! My cousins Tanya and Shana, and my friends Michelle, Alda, Chelsea, Shaunna. Thank you for sharing your time, your talent, and your energy on this day. I’m also so thankful to every single person who donated gifts and items for the residents. Your generosity made this day even more meaningful. It takes a village to create something like this, and I’m so grateful for everyone who showed up with love.”

Besides giving residents of the home a glam session they will never forget, Rego collaborated with Salon 812, Guys & Gals Sportswear, Christophers Café, and Avo’s Feast to have drop off locations where folks could donate items to the home such as hand knitted blankets, puzzles, games, hair products, nail products, jewelry, and boas. One girl even donated a whole box of reading glasses.
Fall River once again came together as a community to do something powerful, thanks to Rego. No doubt her grandmother is looking down beaming with pride.
