If you still don’t believe that South Coast Rail is coming soon to Fall River, New Bedford, Taunton, you better start
While some Fall River area residents are looking forward to South Coast Rail, some still don’t believe it is going to happen after decades of talk. Another sign has been issued by the MBTA that service is coming, and soon.
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority has announced that a Fall River Community Meeting will be taking place on the South Coast Rail Project.
The meeting will be held in the Auditorium at Morton Middle School on Wednesday, April 10, starting at 6:00 p.m.
Following the presentation, the team will be available to answer questions.
Another clue that service is coming is the timeline for Phase 1 rail construction along the Fall River Secondary Line, Middleborough Secondary Line, and New Bedford Main Line has already been set for summer of this year with some rumblings that rail service could be ready as early as this current spring.
Work on the Fall River Secondary contract was completed in spring 2023. This included the Fall River Depot and Freetown Stations and the Weaver’s Cove Layover.
Signal system and track testing have already been taking place for some time along with tree trimming and fence installations.
So, it is safe to say that if you made any bets that South Coast Rail was never coming, you better start trying to get out of them as soon as possible.

This should have said: “If you think this is coming soon, don’t get too excited.” People who really know, know that this probably won’t start now until 2025. Ask the T at that meeting what happened to project leader Jennifer and why she’s gone now. Total mismanagement of this project.

This city would’ve been a lot better off if they didn’t get rid of train service in the 50s
