Longplex has announced the purchase of Tiverton Industrial Park Land is moving forward.

According to a statement, Longplex is acquiring 72.7 acres of land in the Tiverton Industrial Park from the Town of Tiverton for new development, of which 42.3 acres are buildable, and 30.4 acres are considered non-buildable open space. The total purchase price is $1,236,817.78.

Among other improvements, Longplex will now be able to add over 450 new paved parking spaces to accommodate sports tournaments and other events.

The purchase will allow the town to retain use of the current temporary recycling center for up to five years for $1.00 per year. In addition to these agreements announced Monday, Longplex is negotiating to make further infrastructure improvements to the Industrial Park to allow for the construction of a new town public works and recycling center.

The purchases are being made in three separate purchase and sale agreements, which were ratified by the town council at a meeting held Monday evening. There are three projects currently being planned for each of these areas:

1. The construction of two indoor ice hockey rinks, and a golf, pickleball, and recreation facility built as an extension of the Longplex Family and Sports Center (the “Iceplex”);

2. An indoor car storage facility and car enthusiast club; and

3. A hotel

The Iceplex and indoor car storage facilities will be constructed first, with planning applications being submitted next week for both projects. The hotel project site will see site development, once approved, and development on a hotel project beginning soon. All projects are subject to Planning Board approval. Longplex stated that all three locations will see significant infrastructure improvements, made at Longplex’s expense, to allow for the development.

Closing on the purchases will be subject to approvals being granted, and Longplex looks to break ground on the Iceplex and car storage facility by the end of this summer.

All land that is being purchased is currently owned by the town and will be placed on the tax rolls as soon as the purchase is closed.

Longplex noted that the improvements will generate significant net income for the town to support public infrastructure, schools, police and fire, and other services.
