The Fall River Public Library loves Halloween, and they’ve got some spooky fun planned for October. Here are some highlights!

Tuesday, October 22:

Haunted Happenings, 6 pm [FOR KIDS]

Ghosts, goblins, and other creepy critters that go bump in the night are occupying the Children’s Room for one night only and you can meet them! Parents and children can take a flashlight tour through the Children’s Room to meet these spooky guests including Drusilla, our giant pet spider! Then, visit the Meeting Room to make a Halloween craft and other surprises! Please note that the Children’s Room will be closed starting at 4 pm today to prepare for this event.

Wednesday, October 23:

Author Talk: Monsters in the Mills, 6:30 pm [FOR ADULTS]

Local horror story writer Ricardo D. Rebelo will talk about his work in the recently published anthology, Monsters in the Mills: More Tales of Horror from the Ocean State as well as his new anthology Orphans: They were Brutal and Unwanted. Mr. Rebelo is a professor at Bristol Community college, filmmaker and popular podcaster. A question and answer session will be included after his presentation. Signed copies of his books will also be available for purchase through the Friends of the Fall River Public Library. Refreshments will be served.

Thursday, October 24:

Halloween Magic with Tommy James, 6 pm (at Police Athletic League) [ALL AGES]

Magician Tommy James is back by popular demand with his Haunted Halloween Magic Show! Be amazed by the haunted jack-o-lantern, gasp as Dracula’s skull floats in the air, and laugh your head off at Tommy’s side-splitting antics! It’s a fabulous way for the whole family to get into the “spirit” of the season!

Note: This event will be held at Police Athletic League Auditorium, 31 Franklin Street in Fall River, and NOT in the library.

Friday, October 25:

Tales Best Told in the Dark, 6:30 pm (at the Lafayette-Durfee House) [FOR ADULTS]

Fall River Public Library staff member and storyteller David Mello will visit the Lafayette-Durfee House to weave a web of supernatural stories in celebration of the Halloween season! Tales of cursed charms, ghostly apparitions, and murderous madmen are just a few of the stories that will be shared in the comfort of this fully restored Colonial home built in the 1750s. Join us for an entertaining evening that will make your blood run cold! This program is recommended for adults and teens.

NOTE: This event will be held at the Lafayette-Durfee House, 94 Cherry Street in Fall River, and NOT in the library. The library closes at 4:30 on Fridays.

Saturday, October 26:

Halloween at the Lafayette-Durfee House, 11 am (at Lafayette-Durfee House) [FOR KIDS]

Children and families are invited for a morning of spooky stories followed by a creepy craft and other surprises at one of Fall River’s oldest homes! Halloween storytime will feature the spooky tale “In a Dark, Dark Wood” by David A. Carter, among other “gentle” Halloween stories. Then, join them in the home’s colonial kitchen where they will make a Halloween craft to take home! Registration for this event began on Wednesday, October 16 as space and supplies are limited. Contact the children’s room at 508-324-2700, ext. 4.

NOTE: This event will be held at the Lafayette-Durfee House, 94 Cherry Street in Fall River, and NOT in the library.

Tuesday, October 29:

Glow-in-the-Dark Halloween Bracelet Craft, 3:30 pm – 7:30 pm [FOR KIDS]

In the library Children’s Room between 3:30 and 7:30, a casual, fun, walk-in activity. Children can use glow-in-the-dark skeleton, bat, and other assorted Halloween beads to create their own spooky, glowing bracelet just in time for trick-or-treating! All supplies will be provided and available at the tables in the non-fiction section of the Children’s Room. Due to the small size of the beads, this event is not ideal for children under the age of four. Adult supervision is recommended.
