Heavy rain, strong to damaging winds forecast for RI, SE MA, Cape

Heavy rain and strong winds are forecast for the area according to the National Weather Service.

Heavy rainfall with the potential for 1.5 to 3 inches will likely bring areas of urban and poor drainage flooding on Friday, as well as some river flooding.

Strong to damaging southerly wind gusts are possible Friday across Rhode Island and southeast Massachusetts and the Cape/Islands

There is a low risk for minor coastal flooding during the Friday evening high tide along Narragansett Bay, Buzzards Bay and ocean exposed beaches along the south coast.

Here is the upcoming forecast courtesy of the National Weather Service.

Thursday Night

Rain, mainly after 2am. Patchy fog before 3am. Calm wind becoming southeast 5 to 8 mph after midnight.

Friday

Rain. High near 60. South wind 13 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph.

Friday Night

Rain, mainly before 1am. Low around 48. South wind 8 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.

Saturday

A chance of rain before 8am. Mostly cloudy. South wind 8 to 11 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.
