Head on Cape Cod crash results in multiple serious injuries, medflight transport

Multiple agencies responded to a morning collision with serious injuries.

According to Bourne Police, on Wednesday, at just after 7:30 a.m., Bourne Police Dispatch began receiving multiple 9-1-1 calls for a head-on motor vehicle crash with injuries. The Bourne Police Department, along with the Bourne Fire Department and Massachusetts State Police responded to the scene.

When responders arrived on scene, they discovered the crash involved a red 2004 Jeep operated by a 35-year-old male from North Carolina and a white and a 2023 Toyota Pick-up truck operated by a 43-year-old male from Pocasset. The two vehicles had collided, head-on, in the west-bound travel lane.

The operator of the pick-up truck required transport by Boston MedFlight to an area hospital. The operator of the Jeep required transport to an area hospital by ambulance. Due to the severity of the injuries, the Cape Cod Law Enforcement Council’s Crash Reconstruction team responded to investigate the crash.

Sandwich Road was closed from 7:33 a.m. until 10:15 a.m., while the operators were treated, the crash was investigated and the vehicles were removed.

The Bourne Police Department thanked Mass State Police and Mass DOT for their assistance with the road closures.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
