Hazmat responds to Tiverton apartment complex Friday
News spread on social media Friday night that two were dead in an apartment complex Friday in Tiverton. What actually happened was much different.
According to the Tiverton Fire Department, the TFD responded to the Bourne Mill Apartments on 1 Mill Street for a welfare check Friday night.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a white powdery substance. As a precaution, the area was evacuated and a hazmat response was requested. East Providence responded with the hazmat team and North Kingstown for decon. RI DEM also responded.
The powdery substance was tested and determined to pose no health threat to the residents in the Bourne Mill Apartments.
No injuries were reported during this incident.
