Group formed to appeal Bishop’s decision on St. Anne’s, public meeting scheduled
St Anne’s Church Parishioners continue to fight the decision from the Bishop of the Fall River Diocese concerning the pending closure of the Church and Shrine.
According to Richie Affonso of the St Anne’s Preservation Society, the decree has been issued. The decree had to be completed before they could advance any further. Next, the group will file the necessary paperwork with accordance to Canon law to the Bishop to appeal the decision. The committee is prepared to appeal to the Vatican if necessary.
The group has scheduled a public meeting to discuss St. Anne’s Church and the process moving forward.
The meeting will be held November 14th at 7:00 p.m. at the VFW located at 486 Bedford Street in Fall River.
Bishop da Cunha’s has decided to close the iconic Church and Shrine on November 25th. The Bishop has stated costs to repair the church, changing demographics in the diocese, and decline in parish membership as reasons for the closure. Many, however, feel that the Church can still be saved.
