The Fall River Fire Department battled heavy flames at a multi-family home Monday afternoon and those residing there try to pick up the pieces with help from the community.

At just before 2:45 p.m., a call came in for fire showing at 386 Locust Street.

Crews arrived to find heavy flames at the back of the 2 1/2 story residence.

According to the Fall River Firefighter Union, 8 off-shift firefighters were called to the scene to join 35 on-shift in battling the 2-alarm blaze.

No injuries to humans were reported.

According to The County Fare at 937 County Street in Somerset, two of their team members are left with nothing after the blaze, including their pets.

“If you have been to our shop, odds are you know partners Melissa, Carissa, and their son Maverick. All of us are in shock at just how quickly life can change. We are doing what we can to help to get them through this impossible week. A portion of our sales will be donated right to them for the essentials. We will also be accepting cash donations and gift cards at the shop for anyone who would like to help out. Today, the family is grieving not only there home, but also their beloved pets who weren’t able to be saved. Everyone else managed to get out safely, and we will continue to be grateful for this small miracle.”

County Fare has also created a GoFundMe fundraiser which states that Melissa and her 4-year-old son, Maverick were home on the second floor when her son asked what that smell was. Melissa grabbed Maverick and ran down the stairs.

“To her surprise the first-floor kitchen was engulfed in flames! She held Maverick close and ran through the thick black smoke to safety with just the clothes on their backs.”

A GoFundMe fundraiser has also been created for Ashley Hurley who has reportedly lost everything, including her cat Vino, in the fire.

The fire is under investigation.
