Full list of fun activities to take place during school vacation week at Fall River Public Library
Spring is here, the weather is warming, and it’s almost time for school vacation week. The Fall River Public Library is ready with a week’s worth of fun. The theme is “Under the Sea,” with a week of activities celebrating the wonders of the deep blue sea! Children can meet SpongeBob and Patrick, go fishing for prizes in the indoor pool, search the room for hidden treasure, make a fish bookmark and more whenever they visit the Children’s Room during this week. Children can also register to win a treasure chest filled with books and other aquatic goodies!
When the library re-opens on Tuesday, April 19, the Under the Sea Week festivities will begin. Direct from their watery home in Bikini Bottom, kids can meet SpongeBob and Patrick from the popular cartoon series. SpongeBob and Patrick will visit the library from 1 pm – 2 pm to greet fans and pose for pictures.
Next, on Wednesday, April 20, there will be Storybook Bingo at 11 am, with a chance to win fun prizes in a book-themed bingo game!
On Thursday, April 21, at 11 am, the library is offering a very special Balloon Twisting Workshop with the extraordinary Ed the Wizard! Ed will teach kids how to make their own undersea octopus balloon creation. This event is recommended for ages 6 and up. Registration is required, as space is limited. To sign up, contact the Children’s Room at 508-324-2700, ext. 4. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Fall River Cultural Council, a local agency, which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
Later on Thursday, April 21, a Family Movie Matinee will take place at 1 pm, showing Sing 2. Then, from 4-5 pm, kids can try out the new BEAM interactive game system, a virtual playground that gets kids up, moving, and having fun! BEAM is recommended for ages 4 and up.
On Friday, April 22, join the library for two short animated movies based on children’s books: The Great White Man-Eating Shark, based on the book by Margaret Mahy, and A Home for Hermit Crab, based on the book by Eric Carle. The movies will start at 11 am, but children are invited to arrive 15 minutes early to meet a special guest, Bruce the Library Shark!
Activities and crafts available all week include a tropical island take-home craft, an indoor pool where kids can “go fishing” for prizes, a fish bookmark craft, a Children’s Room treasure hunt, and the chance to register for a treasure chest full of books and other prizes.
