Friends: Jogger killed in southeastern Massachusetts crash was officer

The name of a southeastern Massachusetts man that died after a pedestrian crash has been announced.

According to police, at approximately 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, Police and Fire units were dispatched to a reported crash involving a pedestrian near the intersection of Cocasset and Oak Streets in Foxborough.

Upon arrival, Officers located a male pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle on Cocasset Street. The victim was transported by Foxborough Fire to a Boston area trauma center where he later succumbed to his injuries.

According to friends, the victim was 57-year-old Michael Shaw of Foxborough, a Public Safety Officer who served the Boston Medical Center Department of Public Safety for over 10 years.

Friends and co-workers have organized a GoFundMe fundraiser for his wife Patty. The page had raised over $4,000 as of this writing.

The operator of the vehicle, a 35-year-old Foxborough resident, remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators.

The crash remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction unit, Foxborough Detectives and the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office.
