Freetown Police, Massachusetts State Police, respond to fatal crash, roadway shut down
A road is currently shut down due to a local crash with a fatality.
According to Tim McGuirk of Massachusetts State Police, at approximately 6:00 p.m., State Police responded to a serious crash on Route 140 south in Freetown.
Preliminary information indicates that a tow truck in the left travel lane was struck by a vehicle traveling in the right travel lane. The contact propelled the tow truck from an overpass onto Washburn Road immediately below.
The tow truck operator suffered fatal injuries and the other driver who was uninjured remained on scene.
No information is available at this time regarding their identities.
Officials closed the left travel lane of Route 140 south and Washburn Road for the on scene investigation by Troopers assigned to the Bristol County State Police Detective Unit, the Crime Scene Services Section, and the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
The Department of Environmental Protection also responded to the scene to address a small fuel spill from the tow truck.
The Massachusetts State Police offered condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased person.
