FREETOWN, MA – The Freetown Police Department announced in a release the recognition of Sergeant Thomas Ashley, Jr., Patrolman Douglas Mongeon, Patrolman Kobey Imbert, and Dispatcher Connor Bailey for their commendable actions and teamwork during a wrong-way vehicle incident on Route 24 earlier this month.

“At approximately 6:00 p.m. on October 12, 2025, Dispatcher Bailey identified multiple RapidSOS alerts indicating several 911 calls along the Route 24 corridor in Assonet. His awareness and quick decision to alert patrol units led to an immediate and coordinated response.

“Under the direction of Sergeant Ashley, Patrolmen Mongeon and Imbert responded to the South Main Street (Exit 11) on-ramp, where they took decisive action to intercept and safely stop a pickup truck traveling north in the southbound lanes.

“The incident occurred during heavy rain, wind, and low visibility — conditions that significantly increased the danger to both officers and the motoring public. Their calm judgment, communication, and teamwork helped prevent a potentially serious crash, ensured the safety of everyone on the roadway, and resulted in a seamless hand-off to the Massachusetts State Police.”

Chief Scott M. Rose stated, “This was an extremely dangerous situation that required clear communication and decisive action. The professionalism, composure, and teamwork displayed by these officers and dispatcher reflect the dedication we strive for every day at the Freetown Police Department.”

“For their actions, Sergeant Ashley, Patrolman Mongeon, and Patrolman Imbert each received a Commendation Award, while Dispatcher Bailey received a Letter of Commendation recognizing his exceptional situational awareness and communication during the incident.”
