Freetown, Lakeville, Rochester, Dartmouth Fire Departments respond to vehicle fire that destroys home
Multiple local fire departments responded to a weekend fire that destroyed a home.
According to the Freetown Fire Department, at approximately 7:25 p.m. on Sunday evening, the Freetown Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a vehicle on fire inside the garage of a residence at 63 Chace Road.
Freetown Communications Center immediately dispatched Stations 2 and 3 and instructed the caller to evacuate all occupants from the home. Four residents were inside at the time and were able to safely exit the structure. One resident sustained a back injury while assisting with the evacuation and was later transported to St. Luke’s Hospital by Freetown Ambulance for evaluation.
Upon arrival, the on-duty Captain requested a “working fire assignment,” which brought all available Freetown personnel and apparatus to the scene, along with mutual aid from Lakeville, Rochester, Dartmouth District 3, and the Providence Canteen for rehabilitation support.
Crews discovered a ranch-style residence with a garage located underneath. Heavy fire was visibly coming from the garage and had already extended into the floor above and the second story of the home. Firefighters deployed multiple hand lines and were able to bring the blaze under control through aggressive interior and exterior attack.
Command declared the fire under control at 8:03 p.m.
There were no injuries reported among fire personnel.
The displaced residents are currently staying with family. The scene was fully cleared at approximately 10:30 p.m., and the roadway was reopened to traffic.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
