Freetown firefighters spend hours battling evening blaze at business

Firefighters battled a time-consuming blaze that took place on Tuesday night.

According to the Freetown Fire Department, Freetown Firefighters were called to the Excel Recycling facility on Ridgehill Road just after 11:00 p.m. for a reported fire.

Car 2 and the Freetown Police sector 1 car arrived to find a large pile of shredded material burning on the south side of the facility. Initial fire attack from E3 was made to protect the building that houses the “shredder” while arriving apparatus E1 and E2 established a water supply. Ladder 2 crew assisted with fire suppression.

Acushnet Fire Department provided station coverage.

Members were on scene for 4 hours to fully extinguish and overhaul the fire.

There were no injuries.

A cause of the fire is under investigation.
