Free public skating coming to Fall River, New Bedford, Taunton, Plymouth, Brockton and more
Declining Covid-19 key metrics (positivity test percentages, active cases and hospitalizations) along with the incremental easing of state and local restrictions make it possible for FMC to resume limited public skating sessions in time for the February school vacation next week.
“We are excited to begin public skating sessions Monday, February 15th and will continue through the end of the winter season provided state and local guidelines allow it. Find your local rink session schedule here.”
“We know many skaters and their families have suffered financially over the past year so we will be waiving the admission fee for all public sessions for the remainder of the season. We hope this helps in a small way to encourage our communities to come back to the rink and enjoy skating once again. We miss you and really want to see you back having fun and getting exercise on the ice!”
To ensure a safe environment for all skaters and staff, the following protocols will be in place:
1. Skaters must pre-register online. Create an account and/or sign in to access the registration link. Only pre-registered skaters will be allowed to enter the rink, there will be no onsite admission ticket sales. Once registered, print your confirmation email and bring it to the rink as your admission ticket. These will be verified and collected at the entrance admission counter. Online pre-registration allows us to safely collect contact data for tracing purposes if a positive case is reported in connection to the session you are skating on. We will only share this contact information with local and state public health officials for contact tracing in the event of a reported case.
2. Skaters are strictly limited to 25 per session. Pre-registration will close at 25 persons and no further skaters will be allowed on that session even if they are family members of a registered skater. This limitation is required by state amateur sports guidance and will be enforced strictly. We strongly encourage families that wish to skate together to pre- register at the same time to ensure there is enough capacity for your entire family.
3. Skaters must wear face coverings at all times on the premises, even during skating. Regardless if you have had and recovered from Covid-19 or been vaccinated, a CDC recommended face covering is still required or you will not be allowed into the rink. Skaters who remove their face covering will be warned one time and a second occurrence will result in their immediate loss of skating privileges for the remainder of the session.
4. Skaters must maintain social distance (6’ separation) on the ice at all times. Skating will be in a clockwise direction for all skaters to assist with distancing. No lessons or figure skating routines are allowed on public sessions. Household family members can skate in a group but anyone outside the household must maintain social distance at all times. Skaters who fail to distance (aside from household or incidental) will be warned one time and a second occurrence will result in their immediate loss of skating privileges for the remainder of the session.
5. Spectators are only allowed for minors (under 18 years of age) and are limited to two parents / guardians and household siblings. No spectators are allowed for skaters 18 or older. Spectators must wear face coverings at all times and maintain social distance entering / exiting the rink as well as in the spectator area. Household family members should spectate together as a group and maintain social distance from others at all times.
6. No skate rentals will be available. Due to the risk of sharing equipment and the close proximity interactions at the rental area we will not be renting skates at this time. Please plan to use your own. Rentals will return as soon as we reach a point in the pandemic that it is safe to do so.
7. Concession stands will be closed but vending beverages and snacks will be available. Food and beverage are not allowed on the ice and sharing with others is not allowed.
8. Skaters should arrive no more than 10 minutes prior to their session. Provide a copy of the pre- registration confirmation as you enter the rink and head directly to the skate-lacing area inside the rink to put skates on. At the conclusion of the session (or if leaving early) please remove your skates in the same area and immediately exit out the designated side or rear exists. Please do not exit through the front entrance to avoid crossover with the next program.
9. No social gathering is allowed inside or anywhere on the rink property. This applies to skaters (on or off the ice) as well as spectators or parents / siblings waiting in the parking lot. This type of activity has been shown to significantly increase the risk of Covid-19 spread and must be avoided at this time.
