Free festival coming to Fall River, with music, art, tastings and more
FALL RIVER, MA — The Narrows Center for the Arts is pleased to unveil its newest event, Spindle City Fest. This event is all about art, music, food, fun, mind and body. It serves as an opportunity for Fall River and the surrounding communities to showcase what the area has to offer in the realms of art, entertainment, victuals, and creativity.
“Spindle City Fest is about connecting the community, celebrating culture, and showcasing our new facility.” — Patrick Norton, Executive Director
There are four festival dates for 2019: March 9th, June 8th, September 7th, and December 7th. The first of this year’s four festivals will be held on Saturday, March 9th from 10 am – 3 pm at the Narrows Center for the Arts. No tickets are needed to experience the free activities.
Spindle City Fest boasts a variety of free events, but one of the highlights are the free fitness classes. Tracy Glynn of PULSE Mobile Movement and Music and Andre Gadbois of SALT Fitness Company will each be instructing a fitness class. These two unique, high-energy classes will give you a taste of what fitness should really feel like — dynamic, fun, and always exciting.
Fine victuals will be available, as well. Portugalia Marketplace is offering wine and cheese tastings and Troy City Brewing, now open on the first floor of the Narrows Center, will be holding beer tastings. The ever-popular Avo’s Feast food truck will be cooking up some delicious Portuguese fare.
Local legend Neal McCarthy is set to dazzle the crowd with a live performance. Neal is a local musician logging over 20 years in the local scene playing all over New England. He’s a true soul man who puts his personal stamp on whatever style he may be playing.
The festival’s collection of vendors offer a wide variety of goods. From fine art to handmade crafts to all-natural personal care items, shoppers will be able to find whatever makes their heart sing. On the holistic side, Kathy Spencer of Spencer Holistic, an expert in Cannabis Education, will hold an informational session on “Contemporary Cannabis Culture”. She also offers small-batch holistic salves and body care products made from organic cannabis root, as well as CBD infused products, CBD oil, and personal aromatherapy products.
Urban Sketchers will also take part in the festivities. Urban Sketchers is an international nonprofit dedicated to fostering a global community of artists who practice on-location drawing. This collection of artists “sees the world one drawing at a time” and will be roaming throughout the festival, each creating their own unique sketch of what they see. Feel free to take a peek over any sketcher’s shoulder!
