DIGHTON — Chief Christopher Maguy reports that the Dighton Fire Department battled a trailer fire outside a home on Friday afternoon.

Dighton firefighters responded to 3025 Elm Street at 4:21 p.m. after receiving a 911 call about a trailer parked on the property, about 200 feet off the road, was fully ablaze.

Despite challenges establishing a water supply given the distance from the road and the absence of fire hydrants in this location, fire crews were able to make a fast attack on the fire, and they knocked the fire down quickly. A second alarm was struck for manpower and additional water tankers.

No one was injured, however, it was determined that four pets perished inside the trailer.

Fire crews remained on scene as of 7:30 p.m., conducting overhauling operations.

The origin and cause is under investigation by the Dighton Fire and Police Departments.

Mutual aid was provided at the scene by fire crews from Berkley, Rehoboth, Swansea and Somerset. The Providence canteen truck provided aid to the firefighters. The Berkley and Rehoboth Fire Departments also provided station coverage to Dighton during the incident.
