Foul play suspected after group of young people find human remains in Massachusetts pond

SHIRLEY – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Shirley Chief of Police Samuel Santiago have confirmed the ongoing investigation into human remains located this afternoon in the water in Shirley.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, a group of young people walking in the area of the Maritime Veterans Memorial Bridge reported seeing what appeared to be something consistent with a body part in the water and reported it to Shirley Police. Upon arrival police confirmed the presence of human remains.  Based upon the preliminary information, foul play is suspected.

This is an active and ongoing investigation being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Shirley Police, Massachusetts State Police Detectives and the Massachusetts State Police Underwater Recovery Unit.

The public should expect to see an increased police presence in the area of Shaker Road and the Maritime Veterans Memorial Bridge tonight and into tomorrow as the investigation continues.
