Former Fall River mayor Jasiel Correia moved to halfway house closer to home

With his current release date sitting at July 11th, 2026, a former mayor of Fall River has had an interesting couple of years and is on the move again, this time closer to home.

According to the Federal Bureau of Prison, the now 33-year-old Jasiel Correia is in care of Residential Reentry Management New York.

Residential Reentry Management refers to the oversight and supervision of individuals transitioning from incarceration back into the community, often through halfway houses.

His exact location was not released.

RRM New York covers Southern District of New York, Eastern District of New York, District of Massachusetts, District of Connecticut, District of Maine, District of Vermont, District of New Hampshire, and District of Rhode Island.

Although an exact reason was never given by officials, Correia has been on the move quite a bit.

Correia was initially serving his sentence in Berlin, New Hampshire. He then stayed briefly in Brookyln, New York before locating at the Federal Detention Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania late in November of 2023. He was then moved to a federal transfer center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in mid-December of 2023. At the beginning of 2024, he was transferred to Atlanta USP. He was then moved to FCI Ashland in Kentucky.

After settling in at FCI Ashland, Correia attempted to get his sentence reduced.

In May of 2024, Correia claimed that his former lawyer, Kevin Reddington, tried to extort $50,000 from him before the trial, that Correia gave him $306,000 to reimburse SnoOwl investors that was never paid to them, and that Reddington agreed to consolidate all of his cases without his consent. He also asserted that the trial judge who sentenced him either did not know or was misled about the fact that witnesses that testified at the behest of the government did not receive sentences of incarceration.

Correia’s mother and wife filed statements in support of his claims.

Reddington strongly disputed Correia’s assertions.

According to a ruling in October of 2024 by Judge Allison Burroughs, Correia’s sentence was a significant departure from the advisory guideline sentencing range for his crimes of conviction which was 151–188 months.

Burroughs stated that a motion for a sentence reduction is not the forum for litigating ineffective counsel claims, but the Court noted that Correia was acquitted of several counts by the jury, and then acquitted by the Court of an additional ten counts after his counsel moved for a judgment of acquittal.

Burroughs found that Correia failed to meet his burden of demonstrating “extraordinary and compelling reasons” that would justify his early release.

“His crime was serious and warrants the arguably already generous sentence imposed.”

Correia, who was convicted of defrauding investors through his SnoOwl app in addition to extorting money from marijuana companies, lost his appeal in November of 2022.

It should be interesting to see what will come of Correia once released. Some Fall River residents have expressed that he should run again for mayor resurfacing memories of former Providence mayor Buddy Cianci who returned to the post once he was released from prison on a racketeering conspiracy charge. While that would be shocking to some, we first have to get through the 2025 election.
