Former Fall River mayor Jasiel Correia in federal custody
Jasiel Correia is now in federal custody.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons reported Friday that Correia is now under their supervision.
On Wednesday, the appeals court denied the former Fall River mayor’s final request to delay his prison reporting date.
United States Attorney Rachel Rollins issued a statement after the ruling.
“After six delays, today’s order from the First Circuit declares what so many have longed to hear in the case against former Fall River Mayor Jasiel Correia – he will begin his prison sentence in the coming days. Although we cannot erase the impact Jasiel Correia’s conduct and subsequent legal battle has had on the City and constituents he swore to honestly serve, this ruling marks the next step in bringing justice to the people of Fall River and the many others who fell victim to his corruption.”
Correia’s attorneys had filed for an extension for him to remain free indefinitely until his appeal is heard which could take months. Earlier this month, Judge Woodlock pushed the report date back to today due to Correia’s appeal. Woodlock denied the request for an indefinite stay.
On the last day he was able to do so, Correia’s attorneys filed an appeal on his fraud and corruption charges earlier this month citing insufficient evidence and cause for a new trial.
Judge Douglas Woodlock granted Correia an extension on his prison report date to April 5th in March. Woodlock cited that the appeal filing deadline had been extended. Correia was supposed to initially report December 4th, but saw his report date get pushed back 7 times.
Correia reported to federal prison in Berlin, New Hampshire, a medium security facility, just before noon this morning to serve his 6-year sentence while the appeal process plays out.
FCI Berlin currently holds 758 inmates with 36 inmates held at an adjacent minimum-security satellite camp.
After initially being convicted on 21 counts, Correia saw 10 of those corruption charges thrown out by Judge Woodlock as he maintains his innocence.

What a depraved individual you are. Fantasizing about homosexual prison rape says a lot about who you are.

Can you read? What does your dream of homosexual prison rape have to do with “justice”? You are projecting your desire to see Jasiel sexually abused as some sort justice for your alleged loss at the former mayors hands. Call a mental health hotline you moron!

I never said anything about homosexual rape fantasies or anything of the sort. Stop projecting your deluded fantasies onto others. I was referring to the fact that he is going to be fresh meat to get a proper comeuppance from some hardened criminals, which he deserves.
Anyway, I really don’t care what happens to him or you. Peace.

It’s about time the former mayor of our city of Fall River finally is in prison where he belongs. 7 delays is ridiculous. If it were any other ordinary person, he would have been in prison by now. Why should he get any special treatment. He has disgraced this city and now it’s time he paid his debt to society. It’s been too long coming.
