A former Fall River man who is a real estate developer and landlord is facing 50 misdemeanor charges in another state.

Gaulter Amarelo Jr., who now resides in Cleveland, Ohio, was arrested and pled not guilty last week after tenants at 1885 Taylor Road in East Cleveland allegedly had no heat all winter and no water for multiple weeks.

According to C.O.R.P. News, residents reportedly used space heaters to stay warm and gallons of water to flush toilets.

Amarelo posted the following on social media.

“This week has been extremely serious and deeply sobering.

“The conditions at 1885 Taylor Road are unacceptable. Heat and water are not optional they are basic human necessities.

“Regardless of acquisition timing or inherited infrastructure, the responsibility sits with ownership. That responsibility is mine.

“My immediate focus is:

• Relocating residents safely

• Restoring utilities

• Funding permanent mechanical solutions

• Working directly with the city to resolve violations

“I will not be debating this publicly. I will be addressing it operationally.

“My commitment remains the same: provide safe workforce housing in communities that need it. When we fall short of that standard, we correct it fully and immediately.

“Updates will come through proper legal and municipal channels.”

According to LoopNet, the property has 50 units.

Amarelo’s next scheduled court appearance is Monday.
