Former Fall River city councilor, Bristol County Commissioner, Mayor of Maplewood, Melvin Earle Gaudette has died
He sometimes had ideas that were different than the norm and there was never a doubt that he was a Fall River man through and through who gave decades of service and used his intelligence to better the city.
According to an obituary, Melvin Earle Gaudette died recently just shy of 93.
A Durfee grad and a decorated U.S. Marine and Navy veteran, “the Mayor of Maplewood” bled Fall River.
Gaudette served as a City Councilor for 22 years, a Bristol County Commissioner for 16 years, and president of the Maplewood Neighborhood Association for many years.
He often mentioned city pride, removing the negative in the city and bringing Fall River’s beauty and positives to the forefront.
In his last run for office in 2015, Gaudette expressed a concern for Fall River residents being taken care of and wanting out of town landlords to share in the sacrifice. If you talk to most city residents, the issue was as relevant when he spoke in 2015 as it is in 2024.
As much as he loved Fall River, Gaudette’s greatest loves were his wife and children.
He was also remembered as a sweet and caring man.
Rest in peace Mr. Gaudette. You left your mark in your beloved city.

Jasiel Corriea is the best, first mayor to get the city out of a deficit, he was set up, the same type of things are going on now, jasiel was and is the best Mayor ever, enjoy your increased property taxes and the trash
