Former Fall River and Somerset teacher known for connecting with students passes away
FALL RIVER– Frank Miranda, age 76 of Fall River, passed away on Monday October 20, 2025 at St. Luke’s Hospital, after a brave battle with cancer. Frank was the son of the late Francisco P. and Mary (Cabral) Miranda.
Frank grew up and attended elementary school in Somerset. Frank continued his education at Bishop Stang High School and graduated in the Class of 1967. He was a proud member of the marching band. He continued his education at Southeastern Massachusetts Technological Institute (SMTI) which later became Southeastern Massachusetts University (SMU) which ultimately became UMass Dartmouth. He graduated in 1971 and began his teaching career at St. Anne’s School. He then began his teaching at the Junior High in Somerset school system. With the restructuring of grade levels, Frank chose to teach fifth grade and was assigned to North Elementary. Frank spent more than 30 years at that position before retiring. Frank prided himself in his ability to connect with students and was particularly good with those who struggled. His encouragement enabled many of those students to thrive. Frank also earned a Master’s in Education with a concentration in Special Education.
Frank is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Adriana Miranda; his sister Margaret Hopkins and her husband Raymond; his niece Christine Boucher and her husband James; a nephew Andrew (Drew) Hopkins and his wife Christine; great nephew Parker Mitchell ; great niece Gabrielle Boucher ; and close friends Mary Ferrarini and Missy Rogers.
Visitation will take place at Manuel Rogers Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main Street, Fall River on Sunday October 26th from 5 to 7 PM. The funeral Mass will be held on Monday October 27th at St. Julie Billiart Church on Slocum Road, Dartmouth at 10 AM. Friends are asked to meet directly at the church. Private Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Fall River.
