A man is expected to face charges after a Cape Cod beach crash over the weekend.
According to police, on Sunday, at just before 7:00 a.m., the Falmouth Police Department responded to the beach in front of the Falmouth Yacht Club on Clinton Avenue for a report of a vehicle in the water.
Officers arrived and located a Mazda CX-5 floating in the shallow water just off the beach. The vehicle had extensive front-end damage and was unoccupied.
A preliminary investigation suggested that the vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Falmouth Heights Road and Grand Avenue before continuing straight into a guardrail separating the sidewalk from the beach. The vehicle crashed through the guardrail and ultimately came to rest in the water.

Officers began an extensive search of the surrounding area for any occupants of the vehicle. During the search, officers located evidence of an attempted breaking and entering at the Falmouth Yacht Club, as well as discarded property on the club’s grounds.
At approximately 8:30 a.m., officers located the suspected operator, a 23-year-old male from Florida, inside a hotel room at the neighboring Tides Hotel. The Falmouth Fire Rescue Department responded and transported the individual to Falmouth Hospital in stable condition.
A heavy-duty towing company responded and successfully removed the vehicle from the water. There was no indication of any environmental impact resulting from the incident.
The crash and the subsequent activity involving the suspected operator remain under investigation by the Falmouth Police Department. Criminal charges are expected upon completion of the investigation.
