Flood Watch issued for eastern New England as heavy rain moves in
The National Weather Service in Boston/Norton has issued a Flood Watch for central and eastern Massachusetts as well as Rhode Island from late tonight through late Saturday night.
Scattered light showers develop this afternoon, but spotty light freezing drizzle is possible at the onset across parts of interior MA/CT.
Heavy rain late tonight through Saturday morning will result in widespread 1.50 to 2.50 inches of rain. Localized higher amounts of 3 to 3.50 inches are possible. This will bring the potential for flooding, which will continue through the weekend on some rivers as a result of runoff.
There is the potential for some river and stream flooding through the weekend if higher rainfall amounts are realized. In addition, some urban street flooding is possible especially in the typically prone locations late tonight into early Saturday afternoon.
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.
